Mahavir Singh Phogat Biography

in #mahavir3 years ago

Mahavir left his position as a state electricity board employee to teach his two older daughters Geeta as well as Babita. He taught them every trick he was aware of. Following that they went to Dangals in the nearby villages. Fear of losing to a girl was keeping the guys from wrestling with them. The rigorous regimen of training was so intense that not even the boys in the family were able to stand the intensity. Girls were subject to the same punishment for a bad performance, just as the guys. The girls and their sisterhood grew. Boys in the neighborhood feared being overwhelmed by the girls. Girls used to train between 4 and 7 in the early morning, and at night when they got home from college or school.

The famous phogat sisters are not the only or the only sister-wrestlers from India. Deepika and Sonika were the daughters of the legendary Mahavir's coach Chandgi Ram would be credited with that. The motivation to train girls for wrestling was in part attributable to Chandgi Ram, and also Karnam Malleshwari's Olympic bronze medal won by Karnam Malleshwari.

The entire community was mocking Mahavir and accusing him of having no dignity, yet he refused to let the hatred get to his exemplary daughters. Chandgi Ram once said to him that if you do what you do to help your daughters you'll find someday that they will give you immense satisfaction. Keep doing it, don't get scared, and face your struggles as you do your adversaries, and don't listen to the criticism.

The proud Moments from Mahavir Singh Phogat

The oldest child of Mahavir is Geeta Phogat, who has achieved the first gold medal for India in women's wrestling at the Commonwealth Games, 2010. The first Indian woman ever to be able to compete in Olympics

His younger niece Vinesh Phogat also took home gold at the medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth in the 48 kg weight class.

With a skewed sex-ratio as well as a low rate, it's amazing to observe a single Haryana village's family creating six wrestlers who all are females. Mahavir has four daughters and two nieces who are into wrestling. 3 of them received gold medals at international events and the other three are champions of their respective age groups, ensuring a bright future for Indian women in wrestling.

A movie about Mahavir Singh Phogat's life Mahavir Singh Phogat, played by the actor Amir Khan is about to launch. Kripa Shankar Bishnoi who is a coach for the Indian women's wrestling team has taught the team to perform wrestling sequences.
