Game spotlight: Magicka

Game spotlight:

Game spotlight is a series of short blogs I will post regularly on my page, the idea is to cover all types of small and indie games across all platforms that I think are great fun to play and are not to expensive. I personally love playing games made by small studios and independent creators because they tend to be more unique, so you are often in for a lot of surprises.

Magicka:

Magicka is an action adventure game that can be played with up to four players, through the game you play as a wizard that has eight different spells and a side weapon. Some of the spells can be combined together to make stronger and new types of spells to defeat the stronger enemies.

Throughout the various levels you can also find a whole variety of hidden weapons all with unique strengths and abilities to help you along the way. You can also play as a whole range of characters with different weapons and abilities,

In Magicka there is a whole range of different bosses;

Grimnir

Jormundgandr

The Aristocrats

This is only a few of the bosses in the game, however the bosses are surprisingly strong so you will need to use a lot of different spell combinations and find the bosses weak points if you want to defeat them, and it will still probably take a fair few tries.

I think Magicka is a great game, especially to play with friends as you can work together fighting of the hordes of enemies, I also like the fact that when you play with multiple players you actually need to play as a team by constantly trying to heal one another and damage the enemies, along with trying not to cast powerful spells to close to yourself.

As the game has been out for quite a while now you can get it for
around a dollar, so i would definitely advise those who haven't played
to check it out, there is also a second Magicka game that you should
check out as well.

Sort:

I'm a big fan of multiplayer co-op. Great games in this genre are hard to come by because the payoff for developers and the best case scenario tends to be lower than single player games or MMORGs.

Ye that is definitely true, it is hard to find good co-op games in the genre but luckily they are out there.

I've been working on a platform with a team for many years now that is designed to deliver a multiplayer tabletop RPG experience in the theater of the mind. Content creation is fast, so we can publish lots of adventures in a relavitely short period of time. Once we develop a really polished authors tool, that should get even faster. iPhone prototype is done and available online, Android is available on the beta channel. Hoping to launch Android before Xmas. Let me know if that sort of thing interests you and I'll ping you before we launch.

that sound really interesting. I would love to check out the game ASAP

Join the open Android beta here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playthousandrealms.firegate or see our old UI on iPhone https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fire-gate-thousand-realms/id913730924?mt=8

New UI is in process for iPhone and testing is being done on Android for a December release. Hoping to get two more titles released before Xmas.

If you find any bugs, please report them. Testing is our bottleneck right now!

I'm installing now and will be sure to report any bugs if i find them.
