Is magicdice playing provably fair game

in #magicdice6 years ago (edited)

After the dapp rating published by @therealwolf on steemdapps and seeing @magicdice trx topping the chart, my interest increased in @magicdice. I then decided to play the game to evaluate if it is "provably fair " as claimed like all other online games of this nature. I played extensively for two days. And I observed that:

  1. If you play small amount -then game outcomes seem to be "random"
  2. But if you consistently win or play large amount then game outcomes seem to be not "random"

So, to remove my doubt I decided to do the analysis of reported outcomes for my account. As per @magicdice post Magic Dice Tech Talk - Provably fair and transparent, the serverhash used for any dice roll should have been published in advance onto the blockchain and I find that is the case. Have a look on below pictures:

It clearly shows that @magicdice game is "provably fair" to this extent.

However, one issue still remains. And issue is @magicdice knows the serverseed. So they can use that information to predict the dice rolls and use that information to bet from some account. I would like @magicdice to make a comment on this that how do they put this loophole at rest.

Thanks for the post and analysis. We have a strong focus on our provably fair system and want to make it as transparent and easy to verify as possible. We think our provably fair system is more transparent than other platforms. You won't be able to verify your bets on EosBet or BetDice like on MagicDice.

Yes we know our server seed, just like any other dice platform. Otherwise we couldn't calculate the dice roll. Playing and winning on our own platform doesn't profit us in any way.

So , it's not a question about your integrity but a question about whether it is technically possible or not?

can you comment from that perspective ?

Yes as provider of the platform, we can win on the platform. The question is what's the point? There is no reason for us to do so and there is nothing we can gain from that.

The important part is that the platform is provably fair and we can't manipulate the outcome of the player's dice roll.

tks for your reply....

Is it possible to make regular audit reports for different time frames like 1 hr, 2hr, 4hr, 8hr, 16hr, 1day, 2day and son on to show any abnormal behaviour of winning the bets by different players?

We have created a report script for that -> https://github.com/magic-dice/magic-dice-report.
All bet information is stored on the blockchain. You are able to verify every bet ever played. Any third party can audit and verify the bets.

So far there was zero demand from the community for that, so we focused on other things. The script needs some updates. It uses the account history, but it gets truncated after a while. Better would be to parse blocks or use the data from SteemSQL.

Thank u. I will run it and summaries my findings

Great post! So happy you put my mind at rest. Post is totally worth 200 dollars

I stumbled on this post while looking for posts on magic dice transparency
