Little Globe of Joy

Let me introduce you to one of the funniest little fish in the Pacific Northwest.

Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker-1.jpg

This round, kinda orb like animal is called a Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker. Why do you ask is named that way? Well other than this fish being covered in hundreds of small spines it has a round suction cup disk on the bottom of its body.

Because it struggles at times to swim, these fish will release themselves from the kelp or sea grass they are attached to, frantically flap their short stubby fins until they reach their next resting place.

Finding and photographing these pea sized little guys can be quite a challenge due to their colouration and ability to hide under kelp leaves. Be gentle, and keep a keen eye out to capture an image of this cute little fish.

Thanks for reading.
