Laying in Wait

If your built for speed and camouflage how do you get a meal? You wait and then strike.

Ambush-1.jpg

In the Pacific Northwest there are several species of flat fish such as sole and halibut. Laying in wait for a tasty meal to swim or crawl by and then wham! Lunch.

Most of these fish pail in comparison to the ambush predators that live in warmer waters such as Star Gazers or Frog Fish. These fish are masters of disguise and patients.

Photographing these types of fish is an awesome challenge due to their ability to hide in plain sight. You need to be just a patient as they are. Look for the light reflecting in their eyes, that the best way to find them and get a shot.

Thanks for reading.
