What

What is LyX? LyX is a different type of word processor. You can print, save as XHTML and PDF. Word wrap always keeps the horizontal scrollbars away, so you can use it at any Window size. It's missing things that it doesn't need. There is no need for Zoom. Whereas, in most word processors, you have control of how much white space goes between each word, in LyX you can only put one space between each word! As the rules of the paragraphs are already set, all indentation is done for you!

Why

Other word processors have high-level functions. Like in Libre Office, you can keep tables attached to a previous paragraph so a page break doesn't leave them on different pages. In LyX, you can put protected spaces between words in order to keep a proper name from being broken. Where it really shines is in Math.

The math gets ruined when converted to HTML, but the PDF output just looks perfect. You can take a screenshot of LyX or the PDF output in order to put Math on Steemit.

Conclusion

Although markdown is easy enough to use for styled texts, for writing math LyX makes things easy. LyX is a free download for both Windows and Linux.
