Soldier

I have written some articles on Steemit about my Army Days "Chronicles of Alan" Army. If you wish to pursue my misspent youth further?
One of the things that I never wrote on was after spending a while at De Brug outside Bloemfontein doing War Games, I said to the other Guy's " In the event of a war we need to shoot these officers and then you can follow me so that we have a fair chance at getting out alive" This sounds Drastic but the Officers in charge of us at that time , could not read maps, had us all bunched up on patrol, instead of spreadout , and made a lot of noise when we should have been stealthy. I was 18 at the time and with the wisdom of youth, thought I knew everything!
My Dad ran away to join the Military when he was 16 , when WW2 broke out!

Why did I want to go to a war?
Did I know what I was fighting for?
Stuck here in this foreign land
Dodging Bullets and covered in sand

Get up early,go to bed late
Maybe being a soldier was my fate
Polishing and shining till I've had my fill
Is more important than hitting the bul

Surprise inspection seems so lame
Supposed to be heading for fame
I thought I'd be number 1 not a Zero
