Why are international students reluctant to return to China? Tsinghua and Peking University professors have different views.

Tsinghua and Peking University are the "dream" universities of countless students.

The admission scores of Tsinghua University and Peking University are above 670 points each year, which means that only a very small number of scholars and masters can pass the entrance examination each year, and most of the students cannot study at these two universities. Moreover, many of the graduates of these two universities will study abroad for further studies in world-renowned universities.

Regrettably, Tsinghua and Peking University have a large number of students studying abroad each year, but very few of them return to China after completing their studies. According to survey data, only 19% of Tsinghua University students studying in the United States returned to study abroad, and 81% of the students stayed in the United States to settle, work, and even changed to American citizenship.
Our country’s hard-earned talents eventually "made wedding dresses" for the United States, which made countless people feel sorry and distressed.
Not only Tsinghua University, but many prestigious universities in my country have this phenomenon. Many high-level scholars (masters and doctoral students) are proud to study in the United States, settle in the United States, and change their American citizenship.
Why is there such a phenomenon? Shi Yigong, a professor at Tsinghua University in my country, and Xu Chenyang, a professor at Peking University, both gave explanations, but their explanations were completely opposite.

1. Shi Yigong, the main reason is that the overseas students are "comfortable".
   According to Shi Yigong, a professor at Tsinghua University, the reason why international students are unwilling to return to China is, in the final analysis, four words, "being at ease."
   The United States ranks first in the world in terms of economic and technological levels. Although my country's economy has developed rapidly in recent years, it cannot be compared with the United States in terms of prices, housing prices, and wages.
   Prices in the United States are even lower. As long as international students enter a good company in the United States and work for a few years, they can use their own strength to borrow money to buy a house. However, in my country, college students face high housing prices after graduation.
   The vast majority of college students who want to buy a house smoothly can only rely on their parents' savings. With their own strength, they can't even pay the down payment for the house.
   In the United States, international students can live "comfortably". Professor Shi Yigong is not used to this. "Enjoyment" is understandable to ordinary people, but scientific researchers need to be aggressive and overcome difficulties. It is difficult to achieve great results if you always hold the mind of "enjoyment"!
2. Xu Chenyang, the main reason is that the domestic scientific research environment is not good.
   Xu Chenyang, as a "post-80s" professor at Peking University and a research leader in the field of algebraic geometry, his views on the reluctance of international students to return to China are mainly in the field of scientific research. Xu Chenyang believes that young people are reluctant to return to China mainly because of the following three points.
3. The research climate is impetuous.
   The domestic academic circles are impetuous. Researchers are busy "appraising professional titles", "taking projects", and treating academics as a way to earn fame and fortune. Xu Chenyang is very uncomfortable with this and clearly pointed out that in an impetuous environment It is difficult to concentrate on scientific research.

1. Insufficient support for young people.
   The domestic academic community always talks about qualifications. Many selections are based on the "inside recommendation" mechanism. Young scientists without qualifications and contacts can hardly obtain projects and funds. Scientists with veteran qualifications do not worry about project funding at all, and young scientists with no qualifications find it difficult to obtain support.
2. Academic fraud will not be punished!
   In recent years, domestic academic frauds have been reported frequently, but many academic frauds have finally disappeared, and there is no more information. Scientists who falsify academics emerge endlessly, and it is difficult to be punished, which is difficult to accept for scientists who concentrate on academics.

Shi Yigong, a professor at Tsinghua University, and Xu Chenyang, a professor at Peking University, gave diametrically opposite explanations for the reluctance of international students to return to China for development. Shi Yi recognized that the main reason lies in the personal "enjoyment" of international students.
