Trump campaign won't allow its supporters to accept bitcoin

Over the past few weeks, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee have decided to no longer accept bitcoin as a donation. This decision comes after a number of famous scandals related to bitcoin payments.

In late September, it was revealed that Roger Stone, an adviser to Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign, received $130,000 worth of bitcoin from a Russian citizen who was prosecuted. The special counsel charged Robert Mueller earlier this year with his role in meddling with the 2016 election. It's not clear if Stone was aware at the time that he was dealing with someone believed to be involved in the 2016 election. whether or not a foreign government tries to influence elections in the United States.

In December 2017, Miller Gossett, who is running as an independent candidate for Congress in California's 50th district, donated $2 million worth of bitcoins to his campaign, which was announced in December 2017. arguably one of the biggest donations made to the age of crypto use. However, due to allegations that he received illegal donations from foreign nationals (which he denies), Gossett returned all but $4,000 of those donations to their original owners and refund their money by PayPal.

And then there are the likes of John McAfee himself: Last year, his 2020 presidential campaign started accepting bitcoin donations, but stopped after he found out.
