When libertarians turn their backs on their own party.

Occasional, or perhaps once-upon-a-time, libertarian Walter Block says libertarians in swing states should vote for Trump instead of the Libertarian Party candidate, because Biden favors wokeism, taxes, and economic regulation, and Trump will pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbrecht.

Block has apparently rejected his own former vociferous advocacy for absolutely free movement of goods and people across borders, by supporting an avowed economic and social nationalist, who wants to slap tariffs on all imports and round up and deport 10 million immigrants.

Deporting 10 million in exchange for a shaky promise of pardoning one person - boy, does Block know how to strike a great deal or what?

Neither major party candidate has a true libertarian bone in his body. They just want to use state power to control you in different ways. But to the extent Biden's critics are right that he has failed to control immigration - or, in their perspective, doesn't want to - he may pragmatically be more libertarian than Trump, by Block's own prior standards.

Neither candidate will get my vote, but when so-called libertarians turn their backs on their own publicly expressed values to argue that we must support the candidate who had openly authoritarian tendencies and broke the previously unbroken tradition of peaceful transfers of power, it's deeply dispiriting.
