Sacrifice and Loyalty, was it worth losing everthing?

  Christmas night 2011. Me and a pregnant woman. A long time friend. My girlfriend was also pregnant with my first kid, my little girl, but she wasn't there. 

  I was ditching my illegal ways so I could be a father. My friend said she was for the first kid she was pregnant with, yet she 're-upped' that very night. 

  We both get charged with her drugs, and one of us has to go to prison. I feel like every child should have their mothers in their life. I take prison time so she may get probation to be in her little girls life. 

  Did this go well with my girlfriend who felt her little girl should've had her father in her life? I'll tell you it didn't. After 2 and 1/2 years into an 11 year sentence, she cut ties.

  My friend who's drugs I'm in prison for? She stopped helping the person who sacrificed for her after less than 2 years.

  I sacrificed 5 1/2 years of my life for a person who didn't appreciate it. I've lost 5 years of my precious daughters life for "loyalty."

Now I'm about to look into this little girls face, face-to-face, who looks so much like me for the first time ever. Everything I missed. Diaper-duty, first word (da-da), learning to walk and talk, and all the funny moments.

  Now I'm facing this little person I don't know, but love most in the world. I'm going to meet this person that's not even 5 yet, but I'm scared of more than anybody. 

  Was the sacrifice and loyalty worth it? At that moment I'll know for sure. But I don't think it will.
