Lovlina Borgohain: Biography & Stats
Lovlina Borgohainis an emerging Indian boxer who fights in the welterweight division. Born in Assam, Lovlina is another one of the skilled boxers who hail from the Northeast region. It's from this region that legends like MC Mary Kom, Shiva Thapa, and Sarita Devi hail from. Lovlina is ranked the number. 9 with Linh Tran Thi, who is in the 69kg class by AIBA. Both boxers score a score of 210 points.
Biography
Lovlina is born in Assam's Golaghat district on October 2nd, 1997. Her parents are Tiken Mamoni and Tiken Borgohain. Tiken is her father. Tiken is an entrepreneur of small scale from Golaghat. Lovlina was motivated to pursue the career of Kickboxing by her older siblings Licha as well as Lima. Both of them were national champions in their respective sports.
But, in the process of time Lovlina had the opportunity to move to Boxing and seized the opportunity using both hands. It was during the boxing competition organized in the Sports Authority of India at her high school, Barpathar Girls High School and that the young boxer was recognized by well-known Coach Padum Boro. This led to her being invited to began working with the Boxing Academy from 2012. As she advanced to the International level, Lovlina came under the supervision of India's top female coach Shiv Singh.
Initial Success
Lovlina gained attention this year after she took home bronze during the President's Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. She competed in the 75kg category. Lovlina was a big fan of hope when she made it to the semifinals of the competition. However, she couldn't overcome Shakimova from Kazakhstan. With the win, Lovlina became the only Indian to win in the prestigious event. She then doubled her win by going on to claim an Olympic bronze award at the Asian Boxing Championships in Vietnam in November of 2017.
2018
Lovlina's most significant and perhaps most significant break was this year's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The renowned boxing tournament for the welterweight category. (The selection, however, was mired in controversy after it was discovered that Lovlina did not receive any official notification about the alleged selection. In actual fact, she was the first to know about the selection via a local news outlet.)
The selection of Lovlina for this year's Commonwealth Games was a result of her performance in the inaugural India Open which is an international championship in boxing. In the tournament that took place in February, Lovlina had won a gold medal in the welterweight division.

In the Commonwealth Games, Lovlina had an impressive start that saw her reach the quarterfinals of the highly coveted competition. But she was going to be faced with the difficult task to beat the British boxer Sandy Ryan. Sandy is an experienced boxer, and was the Olympic silver medalist from the 2013 World Championships silver medalist.
However, Lovlina started the first round with a slack however, as four judges out of five decided in favor of Sandy. It was a tight contest throughout the next round Lovlina's Indian took her opponent's an opportunity to win. But, to the dismay of Lovlina the contest ended to Sandy's advantage. (30-27 30-27, 30-27 and 28-29 29-28, 28, 29-29) But, it was an invaluable knowledge-building experience. For Sandy she won her first Welterweight Olympic gold medal in boxing.
Lovlina then won an silver medal during her participation in the Ulaanbaatar Cup, which was held in Mongolia in June of 2018. Then she won an honorable bronze medal during the 13th International Silesian Championship that was held in Poland earlier in September.
Lovlina will be the representative of India in this year's AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship which will be held at New Delhi, India.
Family
