Phantom the chicken and her determination to keep living

This story is one of the best things to happen in my life, its about a little bantam/silky chicken called Phantom and her determination to live.

So lets start from the start, when she was just an egg given to me as food and i had no idea she was trying to grow and be a part of this world until i was told not to cook them around women because the eggs might be fertile. It was at that point i put the eggs i had up my sleeve and my ex partner did the same. We had no clue what to do but we wanted to give them a chance if life was growing in the eggs, our ideas at first were bad but luckily we got are hands on an incubator and just waited, only one egg had life.

As you can see it was not a fun hatch for her and this was because one of her legs had formed at an angle, sticking outward, probably from the heat fluctuation from her hen house to the incubator. she also had an respiratory problem that can kill chicks at a young age but not Phantom, she kept going, eating and drinking on her own while we panicked, waking up every hour to check her and giving her antibiotics from the vet, she made it through that like a boss.

Now we had the problem with her leg to deal with but we was lucky that we had one of the best avian specialists in the UK just 15 or so miles away. Our vet referred us to him but told us it wont be cheap, we didn't care about the money, she had come so far and become a big part of our lives in such a short time. So she had the operation, breaking her leg and having a pin hold it in the right place.

Everything was fine for almost a year but then we noticed she was holding her leg up so we took she back to our hero vet and he told us her tendon had slipped away from the joint and she would need another operation to fix it, of course we said yes and now 3 years later she is loving life with her friends we got her.

She has had a huge impact on my life and to most shes just a chicken but to me she changed my life for the best.
