Science of Sex #1: “Relationship Between Use of Videogames and Sexual Health in Adult Males.”

in #love7 years ago (edited)

Hi !

Videogame use increases all over the world and is accused of many things: violence, addiction, isolation ... However, we actually don’t know the link between video games and human sexuality !

A scientific work published in June 2017 in The journal of sexual medicine is one of the first to study this subject, and the researcher’s conclusions are mixed: “These results support the correlation between videogame use and male sexual health. Compared with non-gamers, men playing videogames for more than 1 hour/day were less likely to have premature ejaculation but more likely to have decreased sexual desire.”

So are gamers less interested in sex because of too much time spent on their PC / game console ? And are they really “long-lasting” lovers ?

Of course (and as usual in scientific reports), this work as several bias:

it's only concern 400 men (but it is difficult to appreciate premature ejaculation in women ...)
all responders come from Italy (Italian men are not representative of all the world male population)
there is no stratification on the age or couple status of the respondents
In conclusion… it is difficult to make a real conclusion ! Futures works will have to be realized to elucidate this question. In particular, it would be interesting to follow a cohort of gamers and non-gamers male and female and to study their sexual habits.
