Valentine's Day Saga..

St Valentine's Day is renowned for being the most romantic day of the year, popularly known as lovers day which is observed every 14th of February every year all over the world.

Different cultures have developed various traditions for this Valentine's Day festival. In some parts of the world Valentine's Day is observed as a day for expressing love among friends and members of the family. Few of this traditions include buying gifts for there children and also for friends to show their sign of appreciation. 

But the most popular traditions in celebration of Valentine's Day is  commonly associated with romantic love, with millions of Valentine's Day cards being exchanged each year. Gifts of flowers or a single red rose are sent with romantic messages to loved ones and couples spend special time together which Nigerians are not an exception but it comes with some twist. Which I'll be discussing. 

Valentine's Day in Nigeria is a season when lovers express their love for each other through exchange of gifts, clubbing, taking your spouse or loved ones to eateries and restaurants, spending quality time with each other etc. But among all this, there are things popular with Nigeria Valentine's Day especially in campuses they include:

• The reason for the season has been boycotted just like the reason for Christmas has also been changed to the "celebration and propagation of material things and lust". The type of love being celebrated on Valentine’s Day is far different from the one displayed by St. Valentine. Most students see it as a day set apart to celebrate their partners in a special way. That special way involves taking your girlfriend or boyfriend out and come back home in the night after the flexing to have a passionate sex. It turns out that, due to unprotected sex, many girls happens to find themselves pregnant. That's why there is a popular saying that November children are as a result of Valentine's Day". 😂  😂 Lots of campus girls also see that night as the most special night to loose there virginity because of Love for there boyfriend and also trying to fit into the pattern of a society with outrageous moral laxity.

•  Another notable thing when it comes to Valentine's Day in Nigeria is presentation of gifts. The type of gifts determines if your girlfriend will continue to be with you or not. In the western world, you see lovers presenting simple and little things like chocolate, candy bars, flowers, wines etc. But over here in Nigeria, "they know born u well, to try that rubbish" especially in front of her friends.. The reaction you Will get that day alone, you will regret ever giving her flowers or wine on Valentine's Day. To woo ur girl on Valentine's Day, you have to come prepared, I mean very prepared. My naija guys will understand me better. 😂. 

• High level of breakup is high on the eve before Valentine's Day. You see people breaking up with love ones for no good reasons and at the slightest provocation. Probably they have a serious date elsewhere or they have gotten a new catch at the moment that they have been wooing for a very long time and have now finally succumbed to there demands or they have gotten one rich maga...

• Valentine's Day is a day to know your space in your partners life. If you are the main lady or guy in your partners life or the side chick. forget, all those "bullshit pickup lines" people keep using to decieve themselves or other people. Pick up lines like, "For me, everyday is a Valentine's Day, there should not be only one day use to celebrate love ones." Deep down, in a ladies heart, she expects to see you that day. Even if, you both don't have to go out or spend extravagantly she just want to hear your voice or see you that day. Except your type of work demands you working offshore or overseas. Let me use my experience. I and my Girlfriend has always been celebrating our Valentine's Day together and few occasions during the course of our dating, she has made that "cheesy pick up lines". So, i decided not to spend it with her last Year. Wanted to chill out with my friends and hang out with a colleague of mine, I've been wooing for a while at work. On Valentine's Day, I text my girlfriend at work and later in the day, i even called her and we spoke for a very long time, so that she won't bother calling me. In the evening, I went out with my friends and intentionally switch off my phone just incase she changed her mind to call me. To cut the whole story short, I didn't sleep home that night. Had no idea, she visited my house and was planning a surprise for me that Valentine's Day. It took me a month with some of her sisters to plea on my behalf before she forgave me. No matter how ladies use that fake pick up lines, trust me, it doesn't work.

• Because of how Valentine's Day has been and how badly students tries to fit into the pattern of a society with outrageous moral laxity, This has made students who do not have anyone to take them out become desperate, and seek to find one at all cost, because to their misguided minds, any single person on 14th February isn’t ‘on point.”
