made w/ love for the cold days..
Kruidnoten baking is super fun to do with children and also very easy! The dough can be made well in advance and you can also freeze well. There is often a lot of uncertainty about the name gingerbread or spice nuts. Cloves are crispier and more speculoos, pepernoten are chunks and in structure they look more like tough chewy. No matter how you call them, they are homemade at least very tasty and the whole house will smell delicious when these nuts are in the oven!
For the cloves.
- 250 gr of flour.
- 2 tsp baking powder.
- 125 gr brown caster sugar.
- 1½ tablespoons of gingerbread spices.
- 125 gr of butter, at room temperature.
- ¼ tl of salt.
- 2 - 3 tbsp milk.
preparation: spice nuts
Put all ingredients, except the milk, in a bowl and knead them together. Add as much milk to make a nice dough. Usually you will have enough of 2 tablespoons. Do not knead the dough too long, if you can make a ball it is ready. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for at least half an hour.
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C and cover a baking tray with parchment paper. Make small balls the size of a marble from the dough. Place this on the baking sheet and press them flat. you can also make fun letters and figurines as I and my brother have done, then it becomes a biscuit cake. Fry the cloves for 15 to 20 minutes and then let them cool on a rack.
Bon apetit!
