Fear of Fatherhood
I'm afraid. I'm afraid of your first step, first fall; first friendship, first rejection; first accomplishment, first failure; first love, first heartbreak. My love is fearful. I want to tower over you like sky-scrapers in central square, blocking the sun from every angle. The hot, bright, searing, cancerous sun. Oh God! May you never be subjected to it!
But no. Now my love runs even deeper. For I know that without that sun there is no life, no light, no warmth, nothing but misery.
A tulip does not grow to such beauty without exposure to its sun.
Now I must allow my love to overtake fear and allow my flowers to bloom. Go and feel the sun's warmth and burn. And learn for yourself when to seek shade. But always know, your sky scraper will be standing tall whenever you choose to seek that refuge. Love, dad
