Augmented Memory Addiction? - "Black Mirror TV Show" episode 3

in #love7 years ago (edited)

One of the less-obvious implications of augmented memory is that it might encourage more of us to spend too much time in the past.

Thinking about the past is important ... but most people already spend too much time there. We're often not as present as we should be. And society could benefit if we all spent more time thinking about the future.

With augmented memories, we may spend a lot more time in the past, thinking about the past, rehashing what happened, and more. I would suspect this would at least happen when the technologies come out initially (and over time we might bounce back to a default state).

If you have seen the "Entire History of You" episode of Black Mirror, you'll understand my worry (if you have not seen the episode, I highly recommend it). The characters spend most of their time reliving the past and they seem to spend much less time in the present (and all but neglect the future).

This curation is adopted from Aurren Hoffmen's take on the consequences of such a possibility and the mind bending psychological benchmarks set by the notoriously creative British series "Black Mirror"
