How do you express self-love?

in #love6 years ago (edited)

Several years ago, I got to a point where I could say, ‘I love myself’, and really mean it. But I discovered that being able to say this wasn’t enough; it was only the beginning of self-love.

Like in any other relationship, words aren’t always enough, they need to be backed up by actions.

So my question to you is: How do you express self-love?

For example:

  • Do you take a bit of time each day to be fully present with yourself? To check in with how you are doing physically, mentally and emotionally?
  • Do you take regular time out to relax or meditate? To allow yourself to unwind: to put aside all your to-do lists and let go of the stress of the day.
  • Do you ensure your body is getting the nutrition it needs by eating and drinking healthy most of the time?
  • Have you found physical activities that you actually enjoy doing, or is exercise a chore?
  • Do you set healthy boundaries with yourself and others? Saying ‘no’ to the things, people and situations that don’t serve you well, and choosing the ones that do instead.
  • Do you acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small?
  • Do you offer yourself compassion when you’re having a bad day?
  • Do you gift yourself something special now and then, just because?
  • Do you take regular time out have fun and play?
  • Do you give yourself time to daydream and create?

These are just some of the things I learned to do to make my self-love really tangible.

What actions do you take to show that you value, respect and care for yourself?

Are there areas in your life where you:

  • aren’t respecting yourself?
  • are too critical of or harsh on yourself?
  • are undervaluing yourself?
  • could be taking better care of yourself?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, what actions can you take to create change in these areas?
