This was fantastic Josh. It's something I'm working through just now with my own relationship with my wife on the back of her finding out something I'd been hiding.
Coincidentally, guided no doubt by the universe, I was recommended a book called Lying, by Sam Harris, which talks about things that, at the time of reading it, I was like 'yeah, yeah, I know all this', but which have stayed with me like a pop song from the 80s and are now permeating their way into my core.
It's a work in progress, but I loved hearing you talk about it. Thanks for putting this out there!
So cool! I have a tendency to hide as well, which is why it's so refreshing to establish a relationship dynamic where it's totally OK and encouraged to share everything (though you don't have to go into detail about everything, otherwise you'd be sharing 24/7).
I may have to check this book out. Does it help with hiding less, or just being honest more? (Or is there even a difference between the two? lol)
Always is and always will be. Kinda reminds me of a saying I used to hear when I was playing poker full time, "Every five years I realize what a terrible poker player I was five years ago." There's always something to improve on in life, but that's what makes it keep getting better!
