Outlander by Diana Gabaldon / The best book

in #love5 years ago

You may have heard of Outlander, a short story about time travel and the kilts that spawned dozens of sequels, and the series that is coming out in season six. As a fan of time travel stories, I readily agreed when my wife wanted to see him, and we quickly got hooked.

Also, I like Bear McCreary's score.

Naturally, this led to the reading of the book. This is a long book, and I was told that the first novel is the shortest of them.

But he shares with the series a gift for detail that should satisfy history buffs even when the story unfolds fast enough to entertain an casual reader.

Claire Randall is a World War II nurse who reunited with her husband, a specialist in history and genealogy, at the end of the war. They rest in Scotland when they discover an isolated circle of standing stones, which is not uncommon in this country. This is a thing that you should not visit again immediately after a group of women in white clothes is dancing a terrible dance in it, but Claire is a curious thing.

The next thing you know, she returned to war again, this time between the British and the Scots ... in 1743. Women are former citizens, Claire has the healing power of a witch, and there is some guy who looks exactly like her husband threatens her at every turn.

Oh, and there is James Fraser, that red-haired, muscular man in a kilt who is so close to being an ideal person than the 1700s could have created. From the moment she dresses his wounds (because he is a terrific warrior, you know), fate brings them together until she is torn between her past life, which is in the future, and her present life, which is in the past.

Outlander is an adventure in which clapping sounds, a hot (high-rated R) romance and a carefully studied historical romance. I was fascinated by the details: Diana Gabaldon clearly showed due diligence, but does not overload the reader to make the story boring. Her characters are well drawn, and there are many twists and turns to get around. Just keep in mind that many of these turns are on the side of violence, and at least once on the side of sexual violence.

Yes, I plan to read other novels, although given the size of my current reading list, I will probably finish the series first.
