Love & Libraries: A One Week Affair: Day 5
Not all libraries have natural wood decor or fireplaces, but boy, when they do it sure is lovely!
I am fortunate enough that the Pasadena Central Library, which I patronize, is a classic and beautiful space.
The shelves are made of wood, the trim on the walls, the doors...
The desks...everything is wood!
And such a lovely fireplace in the children's area! In California, it is pretty warm all year long, so I have never actually seen this fireplace lit. This seems slightly sad to me, since I used to live in Chicago, and would so enjoy reading a book by the Library fireplace on a snowy day. No snowy days here! But yet, we have a fireplace ;)
So many things are expensive in Southern California. Like houses! If you want a house with a fireplace, you are going to pay! However, it's nice to see that the price of used books from the Library Book Sale is still reasonable. The Library provides education and beauty for all. Enjoy your library!
A very appealing library @densiechips and the ideal place to spend an hour or two.......or more if time allowed.
So true, @trudeehunter 😊 Have a great weekend!
Enjoying the series.
A good library is easy to take for granted.
Our local one is tiny and drab, but the people are wonderful.
Thanks for reading & commenting @borrowedearth! Happy to hear you have wonderful people. I worked at my local library for years. The building was tiny and drab too, but it was the loudest library you ever set foot in because all us employees were always talking and having so much fun with the patrons :) In fact, that's how I met my husband @joechiappetta (story in Day 1) 😊
We just had a new bigger library open up to replace the smaller one they tore down. You are giving me motivation to go check it out! Although I doubt it will be anywhere near as architecturally impressive as that one!
Yes, most certainly, check it out! Great thing about libraries is that they're free. So even if it disappoints, it didn't cost you anything but time (well, and maybe some tax dollars 😳). Pasadena does have an amazing library that is almost beyond compare. More on that in tomorrow's post...spoiler...we were voted the snobbiest city in the U.S. But when it comes to libraries, that can work in our favor I guess.😉
A fireplace in library sounds cozy but I would guess the librarians wouldn't allow it. lol! All those books. :) This looks like a wonderful place to spend some quiet time.
Haha @ katrina-ariel! The librarians at my old library used to have the fire going all the time. We never gave a second thought to the place burning down 😝 But you do make a valid point with all that paper lying around. Thanks for reading & the comment. Have a great weekend!
Wood never goes out of style!
So true @old-guy-photos. Some of the houses and condos I've lived in had to be updated. And I would think to myself, "If they had just done all this in real wood in the 1st place, we wouldn't have this problem!" Avocado green paneling will never measure up to real wood, no matter what the "style." I even had a friend whose basement walls were covered in blue shag carpet! 😝
