Hijrah simply means moving. Move from a long place to a new place. Move from a bad environment to a better environment. Or move from the condition of jahiliyah to a bright soul bright.

There are many stories of repentance and enlightenment happens to converts (people who have just converted to Islam) at which one of the processes they have to do is carry out hijrah.
