The True Meaning of Christmas

The season of Christmas is here again with the amazing feeling of joy and love. But have we paused in midst of this yearly festivity to ponder on the meaning of Christmas? Yes I agree, it is period of giving and sharing love, but how did Christmas come about? Let’s take our minds back. There was a time in the history of man on earth when there was so much sin, that darkness enveloped the planet. This darkness prevented willing righteous people from returning home to paradise. At that point the souls of men were trapped on earth. Out of His eternal love for mankind, the Almighty sent a part of Himself who manifested as the Savior of world (Jesus Christ). His coming reopened the pathway to paradise which is the Original home of mankind.

Jesus Christ was a Spiritual king born in a manger, and the three wise men who had the ability to interpret stars, understood the sign that a king was born and went to pay homage. A lot people mistook His kingship to be earthly. His mission was purely redemptive. He preached, healed, showed love and left behind the word of truth as a guiding principle for mankind. Remember his admonition in John 14: 15 'If you love me, keep my commandments'. Just as Christ presented His love for us, we owe this same love to others.

In acknowledgment of the redemptive work and love Jesus Christ had for mankind, the date 25th of December which is really close to the correct date of His birth was set aside. Each time we reject the truth, we are simply ignoring the love Christ has for us. Now the door is still open for those willing to join the feast of redemption, a time will come when the door will be closed. Man has control over his actions but God controls Time and Reward. As you celebrate this Christmas, reflect and ponder on your Journey so far. Are you on the right track or have you missed your route? It is never late for a keen soul to retrace his steps.
