If You Have Loved and Lost- This is the Most Eye Opening Two Minutes of Your Week... Wait for it...

in #love7 years ago

Have you ever read a book that’s SO good that when you finish it you're left with a giant hole of longing in your gut because you know you will never read a book anywhere near as good again? Like, that was the last great book and nothing can ever compare, never even come close?

And then you begrudgingly go in search of another book to replace the emptiness that finishing Best Book has left in the reading hour of your day. You sludge through junk and filth. You sigh and roll your eyes, losing hope by the blurb. You find A Book that’s ok. You read it. It captured your attention- good. Still not as good as Best Book.

But your spirits are lighter. You no longer mourn Best Book. You now only remember it fondly. It is tucked away in your heart, holding a special place- a bookmark in your soul if you will.

Best Book tied a knot around your heart.

Though it’s not terribly memorable, A Book did well to help ease the loss of Best Book.

Then perhaps you read another. And maybe another still.

Then, one day, when you least expect it, in the midst of reading another new book you suddenly realize this book is greater than Best Book. It has more depth and is caressing your attention like Best Book never did. And you are amazed and in shock because for the longest time you thought nothing would ever compare to Best Book.

You have found The Greatest Book.

If you are post Best Book, do not worry. Enjoy The Books that come along, knowing in your heart Greatest Book is on a shelf somewhere, and will be in your hands when you are ready to read it.

Relationships are a lot like reading books.

I'll stop before this comment becomes a wiki. Thanks for inspiring the love of books. Without the written word and language human society, and the human brain, could not have attained the lofty heights upon whose shoulders we now stand and gaze from.

Stellar list! There's a few I have not read yet and must check out thanks to your share!

You are absolutely correct. Reading and travel (immersion in other cultures) is the absolute best education, hands down.

100%

Ask a Paleoanthropologist whether increased cognitive function gave rise to language or vice versa, they will lead you a barn and point to a chicken and an egg.

Great one! I really like the way you put that!

And I almost forgot, this post definitely deserves a tip!

Oh my goodness... Thank you <3

LOL I was JUST about to say that as I was reading your description about books. It is very true. A lot of things do have similarity between human relationships (courtship, friendship alike) and books.
And best of all,

Never Judge a Book by Its Cover.

Definitely a simple yet a good read and a reminder to everyone who is unable to remove the mourning of the old Best Book

Lol! Great minds ;)

Thanks hun <3

Great post, actually when I was young I read many many books - nowadays hardly do anything which is not online, sad but true. However i have not found a "best" book yet

I have faith you will. There is a Best Book for everyone :)

When I start reading a book, I was so involved in that, that its very hard for me to stop in mid way. Sometimes my whole night has been spend reading that lovely book. Great piece of writing :)

I love those great books, that you just can't tear away from :)

You really have a way with words! Do you mind sharing what your last Best Book was?

My last Best (actual, lol) Book was The Greys. I am really not into Sci Fi, but something about it compelled me to delve in. It did not disappoint! That was about 10 months ago! I have yet to find a book anywhere near as good :)

I will check it out! Thank u!

You're welcome! What is the last Best Book you read? I'm looking for a replacement ;)

Well, to be honest I haven't read much this year. Read Roald Dahls autobiography which I loved, and all of his adult short stories - very light and nice easy reading. Busy with Stephen King's Duma Key and I think on the precipice of where it gets really terrifying 🙈

About to read On The Road by Jack Kerouac (again) - my all time faaave, and currently looking for my Next Best Book. Going to find The Greys and give it a bash - thank u!

Steven Kings the Stand-up the full version, is a book I've read many, many times!

I've heard about Duma, I think I need to check it out!

I'm finding it slow... could just be me.

I have read the Stand a dozen times, lol- Steven King is slow at first. He is well know for "rambling" in his works. But once you get thru that part it moves nicely because the setup was so detailed.

Real motivation

I am happy to be an inspiration :)

Great post dear @arbitrarykitten !
