The Privileged Lovers
I am not into Valentine's Day, not even into Lupercalia, but if anything should be celebrated, again, and again, and again (and again), it is love.
So, here is one of my paintings from 2013, inspired by an eponymous poem by Rumi, the famous 13th century Persian poet and mystic.
The Privileged Lovers
The moon has become a dancer
at this festival of love.
This dance of light,
This sacred blessing,
This divine love,
beckons us
to a world beyond
only lovers can see
with their eyes of fiery passion.
They are the chosen ones
who have surrendered.
Once they were particles of light
now they are the radiant sun.
They have left behind
the world of deceitful games.
They are the privileged lovers
who create a new world
with their eyes of fiery passion.

Reading the poem again, today, and looking at the painting, both feels a bit weird. I wonder, does being "single" affect the perception of expressions of love? Like Rumi says, to a world beyond, only lovers can see. Does it otherwise all seem slightly exaggerated and cheesy?
Is love always cheesy? Cheesy as it should be?
Has any post today, regarding Valentine's Day and love, mentioned the word cheese or cheesy as many times as this one has?
These are all big and important questions. Don't let the vernacular fool you.
To someone who doesn't play chess, a glance at a chess board may be boring.
Elegance is not a synonym for passion.
Just a couple of random thoughts.
So, let us embrace the weakness, the uncertainty, the madness, the cheese, let us embrace everything, for there is no carved out path to love. We have to carve it ourselves, and you never know which tools you may need along the way.
Let us be creative, and cheesy, and bold!
Prints of the Privileged Lovers are available through my website.

Love is such a tricky concept to put into words, but Rumi , yes! may be we only understand a glimpse of what real love means, and that love is certainly anything but cheesy. Thank you for your reflexion today, it´s worth it. Love is a word so badly used in general, so much of it has nothing to do with what it really means. Something I´m not sure if I know either... the debate is open! ;-) Thanks Sabina!
You are in love, aren't you? But there is a difference there too, phrases like "in love", "real love", "divine love", so much room for interpretation!
Besides, are these different things or are they perhaps all the same? Are we just complicating something very simple?
I agree, love is not cheesy. Not at all...
What does cheesy even mean?
I forgot.
hihihii! It´s a english expression (I guess) comes from saying "cheese" to get a smiling face when a picture is taken.. hahahah! just guessing... no idea.
In the same line of thought, we might be able to interpret that a " cheesy love" might be a "smily way of expressing love"...so, yes, let´s include cheesy love as a category!!! Categorically not being real love! hahahah!
Oooh!! "smily way of expressing love" :)
Actually, the original serious meaning of "cheesy" is kind of derogatory, but I was playing with words. (I like doing that, a bit too much perhaps.) Anyway... Yours is DEFINITELY a much sweeter explanation, so let's keep it!
Sooo beautiful
Thank you.
Privileged who loves himself ♥
:) Indeed!
