Senator Cassidy thinks that stealing money from suspected drug traffickers, we will build a wall that won't stop drugs and people from crossing it illegally.
I have a couple of really good ideas. Legalize all drugs, and make legal immigration so easy, that illegal immigration becomes a rare thing. I know, I know MUH BORDER! MUH NATIONALISM! MUH PROTECTIONISM! Ending the failed war on drugs will dry up the source for cartel money. People would then be free to consume their recreational drugs, and buy them from a store and not some guy you met in a shady part of town. Making legal immigration as easy as possible would discourage people from risking their lives to come here to get better wages or better living conditions. People vote with their feet. Because their is corrupt government in Mexico, Central and much of South America people don't want to live under the thumb of totalitarians. They also don't like living around a bunch of violent drug cartels shooting at each other for turf, production, or who gets the corrupt politician first.
After all that, there isn't really a need for dumb wall in the first place. Not wanting Spanish speaking brown people in your yard is one thing, but asking government to do violence on your neighbor to pay for a wall you view is a solution is another.

I use to be for the wall, but I've changed my mind over the past few months after doing a little bit of research on illegal immigration from mexico and fertility rates. We are actually experiencing a net loss of immigrants from Mexico. More are returning than coming here. Another contributing factor, fertility rates, is not as high as rightists would have you believe. In Mexico, it's down to 2.21 births per woman, which is right at replacement level.
I've changed my my mind on a lot of things too. I used to be a terrible neo-con that made Bill Kristol look like a piker. I think we've been duped into believing that everybody crossing the border is either some kind of narco-terrorist or some MS-13 gang banger for too long. I think that just allowing people to cross over here and work is fine. If they damage someone's property, hurt, or kill people, those are the crimes they should be held to account for. I also wish the countries that they come from would just embrace liberty and then there wouldn't be a need for them to come here in the first place.
