My interpretation on the Lord of the Rings (freewrite)steemCreated with Sketch.

As a reader/watcher of the Lord of the Rings series, including The Hobbit, the duration of the epic leaves tons of time for thought. One such thought that entered my mind was what are some general themes found throughout. I will share my ideas on what I believe these themes are.

Theme #1: The Power of the Ring. The rings symbolizes a concentration of power. There were initially 20 rings made: three for the elves, seven for the dwarves, and nine for the men. Sauron created the one ring of power for himself. With 20 rings in circulation this depletes the collective power of all 20 rings. With only one ring of power, the power is all in the one ring.
Theme #2: The Ring's Destruction. The destruction of the ring symbolizes a shatter of mental concentrations of power. With the destruction of the ring, the power is no longer trapped in the ring.

Theme #3: The Eye of Sauron. My Freudian take on The Lord of the Rings symbolizes Sauron as a vagina. It is constantly tempting the hobbits as it flashes in their minds. In addition to this, the scene from the second Lord of the Rings movie where the elf queen goes crazy I argue symbolizes the power of the female over the wills of men.

Theme #4: Gollum/Smaegol. This ridiculous creature is a representation of greed and uncleanliness. He, along with the orcs, is an embodiment of everything wicked in Middle Earth. His dual-personality tendencies showcase two highly un-desirable traits in a person, greed and weakness.

Theme #5: The Death of Gandalf and his Journey in the other Realm. Gandalf's Journey into the other realm, where he spends a perceived lifetime, I argue is symbolic that even if life is forever, there is still always meaning to come back to and live again.

Theme #6: The Role of the Hobbits. The Hobbits play a crucial role in The Lord of the Rings. I argue they immerse the reader/watcher in the movie, giving the ordinary person a sense of involvement in the film, characters they can relate to, as opposed to larger than life figures such as Aragorn.

This is what I believe the Lord of the Rings to be. Thank you for reading and I appreciate any and all comments below.

It's a great story, no doubt! I was lucky enough to be an extra in The Two Towers:
