Good question.... some say it follows the sea theme from Hong Kong which has the Octupus card. Others say because Londoners think London is their world and the world is their oyster. Then some say the little chip embedded embedded inside the card is like a pearl in an oyster.
Interesting... I wish I can visit The Tube and use The Oyster one day..
And really wanna visit Hong Kong again....
