Three Challenging Logic Puzzles to Exercise Your Brain! (Part 1)

in #logiclast year

Are you ready to put your logical thinking to the test? Here are three mind-bending puzzles that will make you think outside the box:

Q1: Two prisoners are locked up in a cell and share a can of soup every day. They used to argue over who got the bigger portion until they came up with a solution. One person would divide the soup, and the other person would get to choose which portion they wanted. But now, a third prisoner has joined them, and they must find a new way to divide the soup. How can they maintain peace among themselves?

Q2: A train leaves Los Angeles for New York traveling at 15 kilometers per hour, and another train leaves New York for Los Angeles at 20 kilometers per hour at the same time. A bird starts flying from Los Angeles towards the New York train at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. When it reaches the New York train, it turns around and flies back to the Los Angeles train, and it continues to fly back and forth until the two trains meet. How far does the bird fly? (Distance from Los Angeles to New York is 3934km)

Q3: Imagine a pond with an infinite amount of water. You have two empty jugs with capacities of 5 and 6 litres. The task is to use these two jugs to obtain exactly 3 litres of water from the pond. How can you accomplish this?

Solving these puzzles may seem daunting, but don’t give up! The key to solving any puzzle is to approach it with a clear and open mind. Look for patterns and try different approaches until you find the solution. And remember, solving puzzles like these is a great way to keep your mind sharp and enhance your problem-solving skills!

----------------------------------------------Answers----------------------------------------

Q1: Person A divides the soup into three bowls, and the person B chooses the two bowls they think have the most and least soup. The soup from these two bowls is poured back into the pot, and these two bowls are filled with the soup again by person B. Then, the person C chooses first, followed by the person A, and finally the person B.

Q2: We can calculate the speed ratio between the bird and the combined speed of the two trains, which is 30/(15+20) = 6/7. Therefore, the bird flies 6/7 of the distance between the two trains, which is 3934 km. Thus, the bird flies a distance of 6/7*3934 = 3372 km.

Q3: First, fill the 5-liter jug with water and pour it into the 6-liter jug, which now contains 5 litres of water. Then, fill the 5-liter jug again and use it to fill the 6-liter jug to the top, leaving 4 litres of water in the 5-liter jug. Empty the 6-liter jug and pour the remaining 4 litres of water from the 5-liter jug into it. Finally, fill the 5-liter jug and use it to fill the 6-liter jug until it has exactly 3 litres of water, which leaves 2 litres of water in the 5-liter jug.
