Sustainable Development Goals: Global goals for sustainable development.

An end to extreme poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change. That is the core of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) have adopted this development agenda for 2015-2030. The agenda consists of 17 goals. These SDGs are fully called the Sustainable Development Goals but are often abbreviated to SDGs. They apply in all countries and for all people.

In many countries, having a job does not automatically mean that you can escape poverty. This must be different. That is why goal eight focuses on decent work for everyone and sustainable and inclusive economic growth. This means that everyone who can work must have the opportunity to work, under good working conditions. These jobs must stimulate economic growth without affecting the environment.

Unemployment

There is still much to do within this goal. From 2007 to 2012, the number of unemployed in the world grew from 170 million to 202 million. Of this number, 75 million are young women and men. And in order to provide jobs for the number of new people in the labor market in the coming years, there will be 470 million extra jobs between 2016 and 2030.

For example, countries must devote more attention to entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation within their policy. Financial institutions must be strengthened so that everyone has access to banks, insurance and other financial services.

Child labor and slavery

In addition, countries must take action to combat modern slavery, trafficking and forced labor, including child labor and child soldiers. And by 2025, all forms of child labor must definitely come to an end.
