Sustainable Development Goals: Global goals for sustainable development.

The sixteenth goal: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies with a view to sustainable development, ensure access to justice for all and create effective, accountable and open institutions at all levels.

There was hardly any attention for the Millennium Development Goals, but now almost everyone agrees that without peace, security and justice almost no development is possible. Corruption, theft and tax avoidance costs developing countries $ 1.26 billion per year. Money that can be used well for poverty reduction or for children to go to school. And half of primary school pupils in conflict areas leave school without a diploma. Peace, security and justice ensure development, and vice versa. They reinforce each other.

Violence and corruption

The violence in the world must be reduced considerably in 2030. And there must be an end to the violence against children. Children still face exploitation, abuse and trafficking every day. Corruption must be reduced, as must the illegal arms trade.

Human rights

In addition, legal systems need to be strengthened and improved, at national and international level. Information must become more transparent and fundamental freedoms such as freedom of speech must be better protected.
