Napoli Vs Liverpool - Champions League Preview

in #liverpool6 years ago

Another day, another massive game for Liverpool. Fresh off the back of two consecutive games against Chelsea that saw them knocked out of the cup and dropping their first league points of the season Liverpool are back in action against Italian side Napoli. Despite the cup exit and the dropped points, Liverpool seems to have maintained the high confidence they have been carrying so far this season. Attention turns to the Champions League where they are top of Group C after winning their opener against PSG. Napoli didn't get off to the best start as they could only draw 0-0 against Red Star Belgrade.

The two sides actually met already in pre-season with Liverpool smashing them 5-0 in Ireland, they would be grateful if this game could go as well as that one with the upcoming game against Manchester City coming up at the weekend. Mo Salah scored a brilliant goal in that game and could do with that kind of situation again in order to give him a boost in confidence. Last seasons record breaking goalscorer has not been at his best so far but Jurgen Klopp has backed him to come good and seems willing to keep faith with him in the team. Liverpool comes into the game with only the long-injuries of Oxlade Chamberlain and Lallana to worry about so Klopp has plenty of options to work with. Daniel Sturridge has been attracting all the headlines since scoring the wonder goal against Chelsea to rescue a point, it was his 2nd in consecutive games and he also scored in the pre-season friendly against these so he might get a chance to continue his good run.

Napoli have been a really exciting side to watch over the past few years and have pulled off a number of big upsets in this competition. They have had a change in manager after Sarri left for Chelsea and brought one of their star midfielders with him in Jorginho. They replaced him with Carlo Ancelotti and so you can be sure they will remain pretty strong. They don't come into this game under the best form themselves after losing their last match against Juventus 3-1. Right-back Rui was red-carded in that game but will still be eligible to compete in this competition but Ancelotti will be without Vlad Chiriches and Amin Younes who are both currently injured.

It is set up to be a great game, both sides will be hoping to advance further than the group stage in this competition and with PSG in the same group, it will surely go down to the wire making every point precious. Liverpool seems the stronger team on paper but Napoli has their own share of quality players in Marek Hamsik, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens that can cause problems for any team.
