Huddersfield Vs Liverpool - Premier League Preview - SAT 20 OCT 2018 17:30 BST

Last time we saw Liverpool in action was a couple of weeks ago where we saw the Reds play out a 0-0 draw against Manchester City. It was a good result which saw them remain undefeated in the league and share the top spot alongside City and Chelsea all on 20 points, however, The Reds did seem to be wavering after a run of 7 gruelling fixtures against some of the toughest sides in Europe. The international break seemed to come at the right moment for Liverpool, even though most of their squad would be representing their national teams, the training and games they'd be playing would be much less intense and give them an opportunity to recover.

Source Reds who picked up knocks during the break

Sadly for Liverpool, it hasn't worked out quite as perfectly as they'd have hoped. Over the past week, it seems like there has been a constant flow of reports of Liverpool players suffering injuries while out on international duty. Mo Salah, who perhaps looked the most in need of some rest sadly limped off the pitch after scoring a goal directly from a corner and returned to Liverpool for treatment. Fellow African Nation competitors Sadio Mane and Naby Keita both also picked up injuries while Virgil van Dijk also returned home early from representing Holland. On top of the pre-existing injuries, Liverpool already had to Oxlade Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and James Milner who suffered a hamstring injury during the game against City, Liverpool fans were panicking that their hopes of challenging for a title could be hampered by an injury crisis.

Source Shaqiri & Lallana may be in line to start

There is good news for Liverpool though. Salah, Van Dijk, Lallana and even Milner were all back in training ahead of the weekends game and while Mane did need to undergo surgery, his injury is to his hand and so should not really affect his ability to play. Naby Keita seems to be the only casualty that is ruled out alongside Oxlade Chamberlain meaning Klopp has a strong selection of players to chose from. Even with the recovery of some of his top stars, many feel this may be a good opportunity for him to shuffle the pack a bit and give some of the fringe players more chance. Fabinho has started to become more involved but is still waiting to make his Premier League debut, Shaqiri has looked impressive when given his chances, Adam Lallana has seen only 3 minutes of action so far and Daniel Sturridge has defied the odds and managed to avoid getting injured and actually picked up Liverpool's player of the month award for last month. Klopp has a lot of options. I believe he will not risk leaving out Van Dijk at the back and he will partner Lovren with Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson as full backs. In midfield I see him going for Jordan Henderson, Wijnaldum and Lallana and I feel like Klopp might leave out 2 of his big 3 forward players and give Shaqiri and Sturridge the chance to impress alongside Firmino, with Salah and Mane on the bench to come on if needed.

Source Mo back in training after injury concern

Liverpool come into the game without a victory in 4 games but remain in a very exciting position in the league and so should be fully confident of putting that right and picking up a victory here. Especially as Huddersfield are in rather poor form themselves and sit 18t in the table with only 3 points. Huddersfield drew in their latest outing against Burnley and perhaps could have won but for the lack of a goalscorer. They did well to survive relegation last season and did play some decent football but seem to have dropped off a bit this season and could be one of the sides battling for survival again this season. Manchester City have already played them and recorded a big victory so Liverpool will be coming keen to do the same.

Liverpool will win this

I hope you are right. 0-5 would be nice!
