Start what you love and the world will join: The story of Wacken Open Air
It all began in 1989 with an idea, a wish, I would say a dream of two metalheads in northern Germany. Thomas Jensen and Holger Hübner wanted to have a metal festival in their provincial hometown called Wacken. Little did they know this dream would make them famous in less than a decade.
It all began on a cabbage field
The very first Wacken Open Air took place in 1990 on a cabbage field in the middle of nothingness of Schleswig-Holstein.In the first year, 800 people came. It was an underground event and lasted two days. This year the Wacken Open Air will have arrount 85 000 visitors. It is now considered the biggest heavy metal festival in the world. Within a view weeks the Wacken - Team builds a huge festival city with tree main stages, a biergarden stage and a party tent. They even have a Wackinger Village where visitors can go and enjoy being a Wackinger, a very special type of Viking for as long as the Wacken Open Air will last.
This year the Wacken Open Air will be from 03.08.2017 - 05.08.2017 but people will be entering the campgrounds from the 01.08.2017.

A cruse and a Winterfestival
Today the founders of W:O:A also offer cruses where Fans can see their favorite bands perform and meet them at the bar later and during the Wacken Winternights you can come to Wacken and enjoy a mix of metal festival and fair. Very romantic and unique.
For me the example of Wacken shows that is always worth persuing your dreem. I can become the best thing for you and many others. What do you think?

Habe gerade das Line-Up angeschaut und es ist ein wenig Wehmut aufgekommen, Grave Digger und Apocalyptica würde ich auch gerne sehen :-D
Ich gehe dieses Jahr aufs Summer Breeze und werde dort einige Bands sehen, die auf dem Wacken spielen, aber die oben genannten sind da leider nicht dabei.
Ich bin auch wirklich sehr gespannt. Freue mich schon. Am besten ist es immer von Bands überrascht zu werden, die ich noch nicht kenne. Steel Panter haben es mir 2016 total angetan.

Ich war einmal auf Wacken und das war 2006. Da der Camping Platz so weit vom Festivalgelände war bin ich kaum dort hin gegangen. (Wobei ich auch auf kleineren Festivals schonmal einen ganzen Tag im Campingstuhl gesessen habe.) Die einzigen Auftritte an die ich mich erinnern kann sind Children of Bodom und Transilvanian Beetclub. :D
Bestes Festival das es je gab war das Earthshaker im Frankenland. Das war ein recht kleines Festival mit einem genialen Line-Up. Headliner 2005 war Manowar und Headliner 2007 war Motörhead. :D
