컴퓨터 비전의 기본이 되는 신경망은 상당히 간단합니다. 이미지를 입력 받아 일련의 단계를 거쳐 이미지를 처리합니다. 먼저 픽셀, 가장자리 및 윤곽선, 전체 물체를 감지한 다음, 최종적으로 보고 있는 대상을 추측합니다. 이러한 시스템은 조립 라인 설정(assembly-line setup) 때문에 "피드 포워드(feed forward)"시스템으로 알려져 있습니다.
