Progress LFTL #1
Managed to get the closet under the stairs cleaned out today!
Here's what is being added to the toy library...
I think that's finally all of it.
I moved the pile from our attached garage to the big garage for now.
Next, I'll need to sort through it all and make sure stuff works.
I'm still struggling with ideas for a structure to put this in.
I feel like it needs to look cute and inviting, but not too large that the city might have a problem with it being in the front yard. 🙄🤔
One thing at a time.
The house feels more peaceful without all the distractions.
The kids have plenty of stuff still to choose from and clean up time goes much more smoothly.
I'll keep updating as I get more accomplished on this project. I want people to have some kind of blueprint how to do this.
It seems like this idea is big in Australia, most places run it like a traditional library though. I want this to be a more freely given type of situation. Take that you need, leave what you don't.
I don't want to run it as a business, I just want people to start getting the idea that sharing really is caring. If we make things accessible, for free, it eases so much stress that we can focus on other things.
I think after 10 years of being a Resource Based Economy fan, I'm switching into RBE existence.
Jacque Frescos vision of what we could become once we enacted change on a social level was so large, and spanned so far into the future that people could see it happening right now.
Just like that, change the world overnight.
But that was never jaques message. He made that clear, the world would not adopt RBE in 1day, it would be a gradual transition. And it has been...
Now it's bumpy and we need people to steer in the direction of RBE. I'm taking the wheel where I can and steering. I hope people will follow. ☺💗

I'm thrilled to find a fellow RBE advocator on here. I didn't think there were very many, but it seems I'm not alone :) I wish more of them would migrate to this platform, I feel like it could be quite beneficial.

Well hello there! Nice to see another friendly face! I'm sure they'll all be here in time. Most don't want to accept that crypto will be the stepping stone to a free society. But I think it's inevitable. ☺💗

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Generally I see people who are my flavor of lefty/anarchist making fun of crypto or ancaps. To be clear - I am not ancap; I am anti-capitalism in general. But it's not like we're going to burn capitalism to the ground and wake up in a money-free paradise in one fell swoop. I believe crypto is the big stepping stone to get us to a resource-based economy, big time. Some don't want to believe it yet, but I think as blockchain tech in general becomes more mainstream, more will accept it.
I don't see a lot of people making fun of it, but very few seem to embrace it. I know of only a couple groups, like Envienta, who have really embraced it with a goal of bettering humanity. I can see both sides, but I really like how many people are pro decentralization with blockchain. I think it will eventually make most capitalistic systems obsolete, because everyone will be close to self-sufficient.

I see a lot of mocking memes on Facebook. I'm always like, "Please go read The Age of Cryptocurrency and educate yourself."
Huh. I guess that's sort of that nature of social media though, different isolated silos. I have a lot of friends who are very pro-crypto, so that's what I often see.

I certainly hope they'll embrace it. Though I have seen a lot of well thought out critiques of crypto. I'm cautiously optimistic, as I hope it will eventually lead people to the understanding that all currency is basically pointless. When people realize how much of a waste of energy and resources currency is, maybe they'll actually embrace that we can move beyond it as a species.

Most people have no idea how our current monetary system even works. Plus, it's been around longer than anyone alive can remember.
I get the trepidation, but if people want real change, this is one way it can happen. 😊

That reminds me of this quote from Henry Ford:
That's very true. I just hope it doesn't lead to yet another transactional system. I worry that eventually everything could become transactional, all aspects of human existence and the world. I don't like the concept of putting finite value on things and only thinking in numbers. It could go well if that system uses entropy, and natural order as the transaction system, but that could only happen of blockchain moves away from being all about currency.

What if you made a little playhouse type structure? Like this (keeping in mind that this is an expensive pre-made thing and it's not fully enclosed so not exactly this): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MXP3TKB/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07MXP3TKB&pd_rd_w=SnZo6&pf_rd_p=80559f3c-f83b-49c1-8a72-40f936e9df7a&pd_rd_wg=x5vUj&pf_rd_r=Z5YYEDSWJT39CJB4C689&pd_rd_r=3122d73b-3757-11e9-b2e7-6f7785343a0e
If you got some wood or even scrap wood and freebie windows from craigslist, you could probably put something cute together that would be inviting to kids to pop in and choose toys and also not annoy the picky neighbors.
I love this little house! Our neighbors are not gonna care I think. It's the city that likes to be pricks. Lol.
We actually went and asked at city hall about what they would allow for a structure.
Nothing in the front yard. 😑
Has to be behind a fence. 😥
Luckily, we have a large unused side yard that has a fence right against the sidewalk already. (Atm, it's a 6' high fence though) The lot right next to us (and this side yard) is under construction right now. But when they're done, we're gonna lower the fence and put a gate on it. That way we can put the LFTL over there, behind a fence, but still accessible!
Take that city hall. Tee hee hee!

Boo city hall, yay workaround! LOL
Code enforcement ...portrayed as empowering people, but really disempowers them...
Right? We're fortunate that our property has a spot that can work for this. Most people just have a small bit of front yard on our street.
There's always a workaround though, this is just the beginning. 😁😍
