The Handmaid's tales ending analysis

May Day Radio Broadcast

This is May Day broadcasting a message to women in Gilead. My name is Moira. I’m a feminist who escaped from Gilead and joined the underground feminist movement. We are looking for more resistance to help empower women and fight for equality in male-dominated Gilead. I used to live in Gilead too, and I have experienced how hard it is for. A friend of mine, who is a handmaid, explained to me how hard it is to live in Gilead.
Every woman in Gilead is facing the same problem, which is that their rights and equality have been taken away. We need to work together as a strong union in order to break away from Gilead oppression. All of us are being oppressed. We are separated from families and friends! You don’t want to be owned by a commander. We forced to have sex in ceremony. We don’t want to be treated as baby making machine. We have the right to our own bodies and autonomy limited!
In Gilead, we don’t have families, we are owned by commander. We are given the names of your commander with your name, which reveal specifically who we are belong with. We are like slaves or animals. In addition, the sexual routine in Gilead is the most awkward and disgusting activity ever. I would feel very shy and embarrassed if there is people watching me having sex. How would you feel if you were watched when you are having sex with your partner? Handmaids are treated as baby making machines. No one cares about our health or appearance; they only want our babies. They are containers that only preserve what is inside. We are a woman in this patriarchal society only if we are fertile.
Education is a fundamental source that helps women get freedom and equality. Women are not ready to go against Gilead if we don’t have reading and writing skills. We only hear what the commanders read to us, they are not allowed to read by themselves. They absolutely will be in trouble if they break that rule. The commander reads to us about God and other topics beside telling us about what happen around the world, which made us have no idea what the world outside would look like. All we know is God and Gilead.
This movement is targeting all women to stay strong and independent when living in a society that was constructed by men. Don’t let the bastards grind you down! We need to stop killing ourselves; it is a useless solution ever. Why don’t we stop taking this abuse and take back our power! If they won’t give us our freedom and equality, we must take it! This movement is welcome to all women: wives, Martha, handmaids, and unwomen. Before signing off, I have something to ask you. Haven’t we seen that throughout history that men have been in charge of almost everything on our planet Earth? How many handmaids have died by killing themselves in Gilead? We must stop hiding and stop killing ourselves for being treated unfairly. Our weakness is that we have been scared. The only way to get dictators out of power is to overthrow them, so to get freedom and equality we must fight. Our fight won’t be easy, but where there is a will there's a way.
Be aware that if men don’t give us power and equality, we should take it by ourselves. Started to empower and encourage each others to see how are we treated by men that had been like that for thousands of years already. We are not here to listen to men; we are here on Earth because we can.
We can be a leader.
We can do anything if we are willing to do so, we can...
