The Legend How the Janitor Fish Came to Life (Original translation of Filipino fiction)
The Legend How the Janitor Fish Came to Life
Once upon a time there was a beautiful fish. Her scales were smooth and glowing. The pretty fish was very captivating to observe its fins and tail when swimming.
She has very vivid eyes and thin lips. Many other fish admired her beauty so the beautiful fish became arrogant. The beautiful fish did nothing except to feel being attractive.
All fish are supposed to have their respective tasks underwater. Only the beautiful fish doesn't want to work.
"My fins and scales may deteriorate and wear out" the beautiful fish said.
The other fishes got annoyed and said each fish must support in their own duties. All the other fish agreed not to clean the dwelling of the beautiful fish.
Unexpectedly, the Goddess of the Sea visited their area. Though the Goddess is still far away she already perceived the foul odor of filth in front of the beautiful fish home.
The Goddess got angry and mad because the beautiful fish did not perform her role in maintaining cleanliness and order in the bottom of the sea.
The Goddess also learned that the beautiful fish loves her charm so much that it caused her not to realize her undertaking.
Because of this, the Goddess punished the beautiful fish. She turned the beautiful fish to an ugly fish.
The beautiful fish skin turned black and very thick. Her lips also thickened and her body was so full of hardness like an armor.
"I also designate you to clean of the entire ocean" the Goddess said
"If you disobey me, I will impose the most horrible punishment to you"
Since then, the fish was cleaning the waters. This fish is now known as the Janitor fish or Suckermouth Catfish.
