The Legend of Taal Volcano

I would like to share this time a fictional story created by the great minds of the Filipino. A story behind the beautiful Taal volcano that can be found in the province of Batangas, Philippines.

There once a princess name Taalita who were given a special gift from her King father. A gold ring which according to King Balindo it came from its ancestors.

One day, the princess went strolling on the lake at the center of the village, when suddenly the gold ring fell to the lake. When the princess told her about father about what happen, the King immediately ordered the soldiers to look for it. The strongest men in the barangay went swimming into the lake Bunbon looking for the ring for a week and the still they could not find it.

But the King could not accept that the ring is lost because it is very important for him, not just because it's a gold ring but because it's a historic relics that were a witness to the marvelous events and happenings in the village. It was handed and passed to him from its great predecessors. It was even the mute witness when the King and his late wife got married.

"Forgive me loving father," said Taalita while crying. "I understand how important the ring was. I loved the ring more than I loved myself the same to the love I have to my late mother."

"Don't cry my princess," said the King. "Don't you worry, we will be able to find that ring, I know it. The Gods will not let the ring to be totally gone from us."

Of all the people who looked for the ring, there was this one men who never get tired and never stop looking for the ring. The men asked the help of all heavens and not so far, it did found the golden ring. It was swallowed by a big fish.

The men gave the golden ring back to princess. Due to too much happiness of what the men did, the two became close friend. Not so long, Taalita and Mulawin, became lovers and asked to get married. The King had no doubt for Mulawin because he knows that Mulawin is a good person, loyal and trustworthy.

The couple lived happily and when Mulawin had become mature enough, he ruled the village. During their leisure time, the couple always go to visit the lake. They both went boating and were so happy watching the fishes that goes along with the boat. It seems that every creature in the lake watched them as the couple goes on top of them.

One day, while they went boating on the lake, Taalita saw a beautiful and unique flower floating at the center of the lake. "What a beautiful flower, I need to get it" and before Mulawin could stop the wife, it already jumped to the lake. Mulawin waited for his wife to surface but it didn't goes on top. Mulawin also jumped to the lake to follow his wife but even him did not surface and both of them had total gone and nobody could find them.

The whole village mourned of what happen to their beloved Mulawin and Taalita. After a few weeks, something came out at the center of the lake, exactly the same place where the couples were gone, an island. Because the island grow from where Mulawin and Taalita were gone, the King named it as Taal volcano so that her princess will not be forgotten but will be remembered through times.

According to the fisherman who goes to the place, whenever to go near the island, they always here Mulawin and Taalita sang happily, which shows that they are still happily loving each other even in the afterlife.

Hope you enjoy this simple Filipino fictional story. This is among the bed time stories that we read to our children before they get to bed. We wanted to share to them the amazing stories created by the talented minds of Filipinos in the country.
