Litecoin atingiu $ 50 pela primeira vez em agosto
O preço da Litecoin superou a marca de US $ 50 pela primeira vez em agosto devido a dois fatores principais: compatibilidade com Bitcoin como resultado da ativação de Segregated Witness (SegWit) e suas características de hedge com a Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Em 21 de agosto o analista e investidor de Bitcoin, o pesquisador Tuur Demeester, descreveu a Litecoin como uma verdadeira "amiga" do Bitcoin por causa de sua rede e transações habilitadas para SegWit.
