Europe's Longest Bridge And a Ride on the Teleferico

in #lisbon7 years ago (edited)

The term of longest this and longest that landmark, we learned to take with a grain of salt because you can bent anything for your benefit and cities do that pretty often but the Vasco Da Gama Bridge is indeed the longest bridge in in Europe. Well I've never measured myself but Wikipedia thinks so and why would you ever mistrust Wikipedia?

The day we visited the bridge we had already seen the Gare do Oriente by Calatrava and the Parque das Nações from there we took the Teleferico to bring us closer to the Vasco da Gama Bridge. It's a short ride (we've taken the longest gondola ride in Idaho .... don't forget the grain of salt) and it dropped us off right at the Myriad Hotel which looks like a giant sail made out of cement and steel.

There used to be a viewing platform and restaurant on top of the hotel but it has been closed for renovations for years. Disappointed we continued our walk over to Europe's Longest Bridge and we arrived at a perfect time, the bridge was bathed in golden sunset colors.

Below you can watch a video of the gondola ride and some footage of the bridge:

You can also watch the video on D.Tube if you prefer that.

When we flew into Lisbon, about to land we got to see the bridge from our plane. It was a hazy day and we didn't even get to see the end of the bridge because it was way toooooo long.

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's Travel Digest!

Very nice and informative! If you like Gondolas maybe you should go to La Paz one day :) I loved it there!

We've been to La Paz before the gondola ... it's a reason to go back. When we went there we had to take the colectivo up to El Alto.

Awesome photos and video! The bridge looks so beautiful under blue sky. When I was there in winter time a few years ago, the bridge was almost invisible in a heavy storm ;)

We got lucky on this winter day - it was cold BUT sunny!!!

I've driven over the bridge a few times but haven't seen it from your perspective - thanks so much! Not sure if you are heading down to the Algarve but if you are there's a few posts on my blog about things to do there, but you have to go back a ways to July or thereabouts to find them. Following. Stay safe.

We on the other hand never drove over this one (couple of time over April 25 though) I just can't imagine ... 12km!!!! Incredible. We won't be making it to the Algarve but it looks so pretty but we think it would deserve it's For 91 Days. Safe travel ...
