In this video, i am going to show an overview of Kubuntu 18.04 LTS and some of the applications pre-installed.

Kubuntu is a free, user-friendly Linux distribution based on KDE's desktop software and on the Ubuntu operating system. It has a biannual release cycle. Besides providing an up-to-date version of the KDE desktop at the time of the release, the project also releases updated KDE packages throughout the lifetime of each release.

I had to jump-ship on Kubuntu.

I've been using KDE since 1.1ish. I've loved using KDE, I thought the 1.x era was awesome and that 2.x - 4.x broke a good thing, but it's getting better now, and I stuck with it even through the broken era (I just disabled nepomuk and the like).

Kubuntu tries to GTKify the QT based KDE. Too many apps that should be compiled against QT come compiled against GTK, and I really don't like the GTK widget set, especially when browsing for files, which of course apps compiled against GTK will summon the GTK file-browser when looking for upload/download directories etc...

I ditched Kubuntu for Netrunner, which did a split, then I went with Maui fork, which is now abandoned. Grrrrr..... (each of those was awesome when being developed properly)

Mint has a nice KDE setup, but as of now KDE has their own KDE distro called Neon. It's still Debian/Ubuntu based without all the "broken" apps. In fact, KDE tends to be neglected by most distros (see GTK rant above). Neon seems to be the absolute best KDE implementation I've found, just edging out Mint. Netrunner/Maui as nice as they were did a bit too much customization (which wasn't a bad thing) but it moved it away from being pure.

If you're one of those "Ubuntu or nothing" people, or one of those people who thing "But I thought Ubuntu WAS Linux" - akin to the business centric people I've met who use the terms Redhat and Linux interchangeably, then by all means stick with Kubuntu. If you really like KDE and Debian based distros I'm going to encourage you to go Neon or Mint, it's all from the Debian/Ubuntu core, but it implements actual KDE better.

Congratulations @ribalinux! You have received a personal award!
