→ WideNES: NES With a Wide View
For any old-school gamers who have access to roms, this is pretty wild technology from a new NES emulator.
From their front page:
Unlike many modern titles, NES games generally lacked “world maps” or “level viewers.” If you wanted to map-out the a level, you had to do it manually, drawing a map by hand, or stitching together a bunch of screenshots.
That’s a lot of work.
Wouldn’t it be cool to automate that?
Enter wideNES, a novel method to map-out NES games automatically.
Basically it saves the world as you journey through it, allowing you to "zoom-out" and look at the entire map. Here is an example:
Here is a link to the emulator page. I'll also paste in a blog post below describing how exactly it works. Recommended reading. Also both pages have many more animated gifs looking at examples.

Link Blog
Back when I had my own website, I used to post a few random links everyday or every few days, in the style of http://kottke.org or http://daringfireball.net. Readers seemed to enjoy seeing them.
To signify a link post, I'll put an arrow (→) at the beginning of the title to show you guys it is a link post and that you can skip it if such things don't interest you.
