Born in the Sichuan province of China, Lily Tang Williams grew up in conditions of unfathomable poverty, oppression, lack of privacy, economic freedom and civil liberties thanks to the disastrous policies of Chinese communist revolutionary and autocrat Mao Zedong under whose regime she and her family lived.

Now a Libertarian candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate from Colorado, Lily Williams’ campaign is based on championing all of which she grew up without – individual rights and liberty, economic freedom and free enterprise and a citizen’s right to keep and bear arms. And what is she against? Big government, the Common Core educational standards, corporate welfare, and the nation’s surveillance programs.

Why? Because she is very concerned to see the country she loves becoming like the country she left (China).
Arriving in America in 1988 as a student of the University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work with a mere $100 and absolutely no knowledge of English, Williams says that it was at this juncture that she realised that she’d been living the life of a slave for the last 24 years.

By the year 2000, Williams became a Colorado small business woman and entrepreneur. But it was another 25 before she was able to rid herself of the indoctrination of Mao’s regime. She became a Republican, but left the party after the Bush years and came into the Libertarian fold.

Having lived and survived totalitarian communism first hand, Williams, now 51, is a grassroots activist and professional speaker. She even calls herself a former “slave” from Communist China who will turn Washington upside down.

Political ideas

She wants politicians to wear body cameras: “I will not become paid corporate special interest. I’m sick of those politicians doing that all the time … And I suggest all politicians wear body cameras so we know what they’re doing behind our backs,” Williams said at Colorado’s first U.S. Senate debate held on September 10, 2016.

On common core educational standards: “Common Core, in my eyes, is the same as the Communist core I once saw in China. I grew up under Mao’s regime, and we had the communist-dominated education—nationalized testing, nationalized curriculum, and nationalized indoctrination. I grew up in that system, I came to this country for freedom, and I cannot believe this is happening all over again in this country. I don’t know what happened to America, a shining city on a hill for freedom. What’s going on in this country?”

On what’s ailing America today: “The root of the problem is big government and big business joining forces together against us, taxpayers, and we have no say in what they do behind the doors,” she says.

Sort:

I like her Idea about politician should wear the camera. So, the people will know what they are doing. This is good idea. Atleast the time of in the charge of something.
And about commone core, it's not only Chaina or America. It has been happening all over the world. at least I can say, most of the world.
