Electric Cars of the world : NIO ES8

in #liketu5 years ago

Did you know that China is financially subsidising over 200 EV companies over the next 10 years?

Tesla has had a global monopoly for quite some time and that was mostly due to the inherent challenge of setting up infrastructure to support a pure EV fleet of cars. Without substantial support, Tesla would have struggled but in the face of adversity, has always surprised investors and critics alike with their numbers.

Tesla is projected to produce 500k cars this year and ship 400k of them. Their budget vehicle intended for the masses (Model 3) will be a large majority of these cars as Tesla hopes to bring EV to the mainstream with the Model 3.

Impressively, China is set to produce over 2 million vehicles this year alone and has set up all the major cities with very widespread charging infrastructure. You only need to visit a mall car park to see the majority of their parking spaces equipped with charging points for EVs.

In pictures above you can see one of the more promising models to come out from China, the NIO ES8 SUV.

This 6 or 7 seater electric SUV has a range of over 300 miles on a single charge and has a quick 0-100km/h time of 4.4s.

It is no Model X beater in terms of pure performance but it does come in at a very reasonable price starting at $65,000. This is in contrast to the $100,000 typical starting price of entry level Model X cars.

The age of electric vehicles is upon us.

I am curious to see if there will be a shift in the car making industry. Perhaps some will adapt and others will struggle! That's a fancy looking vehicle nonetheless.
