It is the tallest lighthouse in Japan, standing 63.30 m above sea level and 43.65 m from the ground to the top of the tower (light tower).
The top of the lighthouse is an observatory where visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Sea of Japan, the Oki Islands in the far north on clear days, and the mountains to the south.
Located at the westernmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula, at the tip of a cape that juts out into the Sea of Japan, the view at sunset is spectacular.

It is about 20 minutes by car from Izumo-taisha Shrine.
