Earwax is mostly mistaken to be dirt by many people, so they tend to clean out their ears with cotton buds. Earwax may actually look like dirt, but it has its function in the ear. With the merits of earwax, cotton buds are not advisable for use except the earwax is causing a problem.

It has been evident that earwax contains antifungal and antibacterial properties that help eliminate bacterias and fungi present in the ear. It also prevents insects from finding their way into the ear as it serves as an insect repellant. The earwax also helps to lubricate the inner ear so as to prevent it from drying.

You don't have to worry about cleaning the inner ear in order to remove earwax because, the ear is designed to remove the earwax by itself through the process of moving the jaw while talking, chewing and yawning. Trying to remove earwax with cotton bud may end up driving the earwax inside the eardrum. Instead of cleaning the inner ear with cotton bud, it is advisable to clean the outer ear only.
