There are already contraceptive pills for men!
Recent research has confirmed that very soon it will be possible for men to take birth control pills.
In the study , presented at the meeting of the Endocrine Society in Chicago, a series of researchers found a new proposal to prevent pregnancy: a pill called dimethandrolone undecanoate, also known as DMAU, which reduces testosterone and other substances that influence in the production of sperm.
This new method works in a similar way to the female contraceptive pill. DMAU combines a male hormone -like testosterone- and a progestin.
In the investigation, 83 men between 18 and 50 were administered with different doses (100, 200 and 400 milligrams) of DMAU for 28 days. Then he checked the degree of testosterone in his blood. The scientists found that the levels of this hormone were similar to those of a man after being castrated.
Although the results were satisfactory , the sample of the research was quite reduced, so more studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness.
The findings open the possibility that men can take part in family planning and unwanted pregnancies . Although there are other types of contraceptives for men, it is very common for women to be those who undergo treatments and birth control pills that can bring with them a series of side effects. Now this could change.
