Friday: Piercing advice
Summertime is the busy season for all body piercers. Just go to a beach or a park and you can see why. A lot of young adults have piercings nowadays and want to show them off. There are a few things you should know before getting a new piercing.
🔮
Don't get pierced with a piercing gun. Go to a reputable piercing shop instead. Guns can't be sterilized properly and can easily allow the spread of bloodborne pathogens and other diseases. They also pierce directly with the earring rather than a sharp needle which can cause a lot of trauma in the are being pierced.
🎀
Healing a piercing can take a few months. So be patient and be prepared to care for it for that long. It's not recommended to submerge a fresh piercing under water or expose it to the sun for long periods of time. As tempting as summertime is for piercings, it's best to wait in the fall or winter to get your piercing if you want to spend time at the beach. Make sure to clean it several times a day using saline solution and avoid touching or twisting it as well. Leaving the piercing alone is a good way for a quick heal.
🌞
Wait until your piercing is completely healed before switching the jewelry. As stated above, this can take a number of months. Only use good quality jewelry, mall kiosks and eBay are to be avoided in that case. Stick to piercing shops, the piercer will know which jewelry works best for your piercing and can get you something more unique and better quality.
